This article is about the Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated incarnation of the character. For other incarnations, see Mrs. Dinkley (disambiguation).

Angie Dinkley was the co-owner of the Crystal Cove Spook Museum, with her husband, Dale. Together, they have one daughter, Velma.

Physical appearance[]

Angie is a somewhat short and chubby woman with cropped auburn hair, styled with a white streak in her bangs. She has freckles like her daughter, and wears (possibly decorative) red glasses with pink lenses. She also wears a long gold necklace with a pendant, and long-sleeved orange robes.

Personality[]

Angie is adventurous, enthusiastic, and a firm believer in anything supernatural, magical, mythical, and mystical. She is fully committed to Crystal Cove's tourist industry. While she cares about her daughter Velma, she disapproves of anyone - including Velma - from talking about the ghosts and monsters being fakes, thinking it will spoil the tourist business.

History[]

Early life[]

Harlan Ellison apparently knew Angie in the old days, and gave her the nickname "Cape Cod Dinkley."[1]

Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated[]

Season one[]

While acting as a tour guide at the Crystal Cove Spook Museum, Velma started to tell the truth about some of supposed paranormal in the city, but was stopped by Angie and Dale, who put their hands over Velma's mouth to stop her voicing her cynical opinions to the guests. Though Velma stated that she was choosing to be honest with tourists about the ghosts and monsters who turned out to be fakes, they scolded Velma for potentially disrupting their income from the museum and undercutting the town's tourism industry.[2]

Velma called her mom to see if she could pick up the gang when they were stranded in Gatorsburg, but Angie was too busy using astrology to bet on horse races to drive to Gatorsburg.[3]

Angie began running tours of a neighborhood where young kids were 'spookified,' receiving clearance from the police to enter what was otherwise a restricted area. When she saw the gang at the neighborhood, she scolded them for not being in school and subtly warned them not to ruin the new tourist opportunity. Angie also asked Velma to wear one of her $15 Que Horrifico t-shirts at school to advertise them.[4]

Angie took a picture of Velma in her prom outfit and expressed disappointment when Velma covered up her dress with her usual orange sweater.[5]

She ran a souvenir stand at Ye Olde Renaissance Faire. When Shaggy and Scooby went to the Ice Cream Moat, Angie counseled Velma on her relationship with Shaggy. She pointed out that Velma was more likable when she wasn't trying to be the smartest and said that Shaggy would sort out their relationship, but jokingly cautioned that she would poison him if he wronged Velma. Angie also gave Velma a copy of the book I'm Okay - You're a Scary Gnome to help solve the mystery.[6]

While one of Angie's bus tours was concluding and tourists were about to get off the bus, something rattled the roof. Tourists initially believed that the tour wasn't over and Angie insisted that it was, just before they were attacked by the Fright Hound. Angie, who was wounded in attack, was treated by paramedics at the scene.[7]

Angie called a supplier to chew them out over her shipment of Sumatran Rat Monkeys from Skull Island being delayed. The gang came in after she ended the phone call and asked her for help researching vampires. Angie took them to her extensive collection of vampire books in the Crystal Cove Spook Museum bookshop.[8]

She dropped Velma off at Darrow University. When Velma wondered aloud if Harlan Ellison would sign all of her books, Angie told her that she knew Harlan and to tell him that "Cape Cod Dinkley" told him hello. When Velma met Ellison and she confirmed that Angie was her mother, he asked Velma to "give her a kiss for me and thank her for the chicken soup."[1]

Ange was exposed to Aphrodite's love potion, along with her tour group. As she drove the tour bus through Crystal Cove, the tourists all became attracted to one another while Angie romantically monologued about how "the love" was everywhere.[9]

When Amy came to see Velma, Velma signed out of her blog after writing that a "special friend" had come to see her. Angie immediately knocked on Velma's door and said she wanted to meet this special friend. While Velma denied that anyone was there and helped Amy to the bathroom to hide, Angie grew impatient and let herself in. She inadvertently revealed to Velma that she had a key to her room and routinely used it to spy on her daughter.[10]

Velma and Shaggy went to the Crystal Cove Spook Museum to ask if Angie could help break the curse that Rick Spartan was suffering from. Shaggy and Velma were on the verge of fully reconciling their romantic relationship when Angie slammed a book down on the counter and proclaimed she found a solution. She explained that an incantation could reverse the curse, and that they could try shortcuts in order to perform it sooner: Scooby could substitute for a talking jackal and Crystal Cove Botanical Gardens could serve as a jungle. Angie went to watch Scooby perform the ceremony, but when the Headless Horror attacked again she stated that the shortcuts wouldn't work after all.[11]

She gave the group herbal teas to try, and recommended that the gang try using her new barista, Lady Marmalade, as an exorcist to help with the haunting at the Jones' house.[12]

When Sheriff Stone arrested the gang for breaking into City Hall, Angie and Dale went to the jail with all the other parents. Angie suggested that a burning some sage would help, but Colton Rogers called her a hippy and said it would smell bad. Angie and Dale took Velma home from jail. They went to the Old Spanish Church when the Freak was caught, wordlessly escorting her to the car to take her home for a second time.[13]

Season two[]

The gang and Sheriff Stone went to the Spook Museum to seek Angie's advice about their alien sightings and Sheriff Stone's experiences. Angie was overjoyed at Velma's interest in aliens and took them to the museum basement, which was filled with documents and ephemera related to extraterrestrials. She theorized that aliens were stealing technology to repair one of their ships and concluded that Sheriff Stone had come under their control and that his memories were being repressed by alien technology. Angie hypnotized Stone to help him recall his alien encounters, causing him to conclude that aliens wanted his brain.[14]

She was likely consumed by the Evil Entity when it came to the surface of Crystal Cove.[15]

Post-Nibiru[]

In the climax of the Nibiru event, the Evil Entity was sucked into a black hole, erasing its negative influence on the town and its people. Therefore, effectively ended her career at the Spook Museum.[15]

Notes/trivia[]

  • Her name was not spoken until Stand and Deliver - 46 episodes into the 52 episode series. Before that, her full name was only listed in the credits.
  • Angie is a firm believer in ghosts, monsters, astrology, and other mysticisms. She stands in direct contrast to her daughter Velma, who completely rejects the supernatural in favor of science.
  • The nature of Angie and Harlan Ellison's relationship, the nickname "Cape Cod Dinkley," and his odd request that Velma "thank her for the chicken soup," are never explained.
