The Benevolent Lodge of Mystery were a mystery-solving group active in the 1880's through 1914 and some years beyond.

Members

Oswald P. Burlington - Leader, strong chin, with an ascot. The Fred Jones, Jr. equivalent.
Abigail Gluck - Brunette, glasses, scientific genius. The Velma Dinkley equivalent.
Marianne Blanchard - Attractive blonde woman. The Daphne Blake equivalent.
Scotty O'Rourke - Tall man in a top hat with a monocle, with chin whiskers. The Shaggy Rogers equivalent.
Mr. Peaches - Orangutan mascot. The Scooby-Doo equivalent.

History

Early history

A book in the Burlington Library has many details about their history.

The society was founded by railroad baron Oswald P. Burlington, who owned rails from Chicago to Tallahassee as well as the Mississippi river. It was joked that the sun never set on his financial empire.

The group often solved mysteries involving ghost hoaxes. One case involved a thief who was unmasked and found to be a criminal on the loose from the local sanitarium. The Lodge was lauded by the locals and given quite a feast, which Mr. Peaches and Scotty O'Rourke happily consumed.

Their travels spanned the globe for several decades. They were known to have visited:

Germany
Austria-Hungary
Ottoman Empire
Bulgaria
Serbia
Russia
France
Britain
Belgium
Romania
The Far East
The African continent

It was rumored that their movements and the subsequent relics they uncovered may have led to the start of the first World War, but none can say for sure because many of the manuscripts and private documents of the group were mysteriously burned in a fire in the government archives.

Mr. Peaches' health failed due to old age, and the heartbroken Burlington disbanded the group and retired to his library in the mountains to catalog and preserve his collection of relics. He placed a peach daily on the memorial of Mr. Peaches, since it was the mascot's favorite food.

Season two

They appeared as a hallucination to Velma Dinkley when she was under the influence of terror wood.

They were seen beside a train outside the Burlington Library in a time-frozen scene in the sitting room, which also showed the fourth key in the air, associating it with that element.(Nightmare in Red)
