Mr. Hollander's "crazy" brother Back when he and his brother were young, he used to believe that there was a monster living in the swamp and according to the groundskeeper, he had a wild imagination and would make up crazy stories.
Mr. Hollander Velma found papers tucked away in an old book that were a will and legal documents about the mansion, which proved that he had something to hide.

Culprits

Mr. Hollander as the swamp monster He was trying to scare people away from the swamp, because, according to the legal papers that Velma found, that was where his treasure was hidden and he didn't want anyone else to find it first.
