Today's guest is Tom Ruegger, who you may have heard of him as the creator of Warner Bros. Animation's Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, and Hysteria, among others. But what we're talking about today is Tom's work on 80s Scooby-Doo, including his own series, A Pup Named Scooby-Doo.
So without further ado, An Interview With... Tom Ruegger. (Questions will be as Scoobypedia, answers will be as TR.)
Scoobypedia: How did you did you get into the biz?
TR: I drew cartoons as a kid. I loved Warner Bros. cartoons, Hanna-Barbera cartoons. I would lay down on the rug in front of the TV and draw what I was watching. Yogi, Huck, Bugs, Daffy, Popeye. My parents encouraged my drawing abilities.
In highschool and college, I drew editorial ca…

Today, we are joined by J.M. DeMatteis, known for writing the TV series Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!, but perhaps more so for the Scooby Apocalypse comic, and that’s exactly what we’re talking about now.

DeMatteis: Comics? The old-fashioned way: just banged my head against the door, submitting material, till they finally let me in. I started at DC in the days when new writers learned their craft on the so-called “mystery books”: anthologies like HOUSE OF MYSTERY and WEIRD WAR TALES. Crafting those short stories, which required tight plotting and characterizat…

Like "Category:Mysteries (that took place?) in Coolsville" or the same about New York City, or Japan, or Greece, etc. These are places the gang had visited more than once in the franchise's history; if you'd like you can have the same about novels or comics (for example: "Category:Mysteries in Coolsville (DC Comics)"). Just a suggestion for improvement and precision of the wiki.-Perfect Ceru (talk) 16:15, February 2, 2018 (UTC)Read more >

Today's guest is Tom Konkle, a writer and voice actor for Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! Tom worked on both seasons 1 and 2 of the show, so we get to talk about that here.
So, without further ado, I present An Interview With... Tom Konkle. (Questions are asked as Scoobypedia. Replies from Tom Konkle are shortened as TK.)
Scoobypedia: How did you get into the biz?
TK: I got into the business as an actor while also being a filmmaker since I was a teen. Then, I got an agent that I love, AKA Talent, for commercials and started making a living at acting which freed me to study the craft and create through writing and by directing production…Read more >
This is the first of its kind for Scoobypedia. An actual interview from someone who worked on a Scooby-Doo production. In this instance, I will be talking to Jon Colton Barry, head writer, who developed the currently airing Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! TV series. (Season 1 can be found on the Boomerang website, while season 2 can be found on Cartoon Network and Boomerang in most countries.) Jon has also been very sociable on Twitter (his handle is @joncoltonbarry) and the Scooby Addicts forum, spending time discussing the behind the scenes of the show with the fans, for which I'm very grateful for, as I’m sure other fans are.

What happened yesterday, was that I saw a post on ScoobySnax's website that talked about a photo someone had posted on Twitter. This photo had Frank Welker, Candi Milo, Josh Keaton, and Billy West. Next to Frank Welker on a table was a script which said "Scooby Doo! Guess Who?" The site assumed this was the name of the new series (with help from a self righteous guy named TheScoobyDoom, who's also on Scooby Addicts, so go figure). She also assumed that Josh Keaton and Candi Milo were guests on this new show (hence why they were in the photo), and I thought she left out Billy West by accident. So, I went blasting on to Twitter, because I thought this was the real deal (as did she and clearly everybody else).
Later in the day, I got a message…Read more >

Scooby-Doo is clearly a very lucrative property, but I think it's got to the point where it's been overly abused now. At least when there's something new of Batman or Superman, people pay attention, with Scooby-Doo, it's more out of nostalgia, and then they go about their day.
I'll start at the bottom of this franchise with companies who have nothing but money on the brain and in their eyes: The comics. DC Comics have clearly no interest in doing quality work except for the Jim Lee pushed Scooby Apocalypse. Otherwise, there's Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? and Scooby-Doo! Team-Up (and if Jim Lee was such a fan, then maybe you'd think they'd push for higher quality comics all around?). Team-Up is an ambitious crossover of DC superheroes and Hanna-Barbe…Read more >
Cartoon Network did a really lousy job promoting and quickly airing Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! I don't think it's because it was such a terrible show, it's because CN clearly didn't care enough. What's more insulting, is that they still have some producer involved in the end credits for season 2, like it still needed the backing for what it clearly wasn't going to air (or maybe it was done with the believe that it was actually going to air on their channel).
Another thing that is disappointing, is that Boomerang didn't air what CN didn't want to, either. It turns out that Boomerang was getting its own Netflix-like website, only done in a manner of which someone had clearly no experience in making it, or running it, or promoting it. And when it open…Read more >
Some people have this big problem against red links. They frown upon them. But if used wisely, they can be really helpful, especially in finding where else you've done the same link for a particular subject. Maybe instead of having a different page for each new incarnation of the gang, there should just be one page with preference on the TV specials and DTVs, with the other appearances as "Other versions". If I make a comparison between Rufus T. Dinkley and Donald Trump on Twitter, it's because they act and look similar in a certain way. It's not because of my views of how he acts as a president and that I think he's terrible and am secretly giving a "POLITICAL LEANING" to it, which by the way, is utterly ridiculous. I'm just telling the people who might find the comparison amusing. If you are a political person and/or don't like Trump, that's not my issue, that's yours.Read more >
At the beginning, I would just think wrong dates from TV Guide and Zap2it was just because Cartoon Network postponed, but they've consistently given wrong dates to the point of absurdity that I'm not even sure where or who they could've got the dates from to think it's okay for them to state this. Even after Turner revealed that Boomerang is going to have an online subscription service to air new Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!, TV Guide has given dates that have gone and passed with no new episodes that have aired, and it will be the same for the future dates they've put down. DC Comics' Scooby-Doo! Team-Up has been around for more than three years now, and with everything they've done, I feel we're just about getting somewhere, but I also feel it could quite easily burn up just as easily.
The comic has broken new ground and properly established old ground, that in this comic the worlds of DC and Hanna-Barbera are not only relevant to the world of Scooby-Doo, but also co-exist together (at least when they feel it necessary to do so). It completely ignores the DTV, Scooby-Doo! Mask of the Blue Falcon, where Scooby's past adventures with Dynomutt, Blue Falcon, Speed Buggy, and so on, never happened, as they are all fictional characters. They could be real characters that have TV series based on them (The Adventures of …Read more >
In the US, there's six remaining episodes of season 1 of Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!, and if you hadn't noticed, we have a Twitter account, which I use to talk about the fact that Cartoon Network in the United States of America have yet to air the remaining episodes, despite the fact that season 2 is more or less finished. There's an animated short done as an extra for the Aloha, Scooby-Doo! DVD, called An Evening with the Scooby-Doo Gang. I don't consider it to be canon for the following reasons.
- It's done in a tongue-in-the-cheek style, which takes their celebrity to areas that has never been done outside of this (comics would make them mini-celebrities, but nothing ever seems to come out of that for some reason. But that's another story).
- Scrappy is brought up, which does actually provide a much needed, albeit subtle, hint of what happened to him (which is, even the animated counterparts got fed up with him), but the fact that he is brought up still creates more problems than solving them as he's never been brought up outside of that. He seems to just not exi…
What I notice is that these three direct-to-video Scooby-Doo movies are rated TV PG: Wrestlemania Mystery, Frankencreepy, and Moon Monster Madness.
That leaves me with one question. Why have they been given this rating? What content could there be in those movies that lead to these movies getting such a rating rather than TV G or TV Y7?Read more >
I don't want to be one of those people that complain about one site on another, but I think people should know how registered users on Scooby Addicts forum are treated. Tony Cervone recently called on fans in a tweet for our favourite monsters. Today is the fourth day that I've worked on this wiki. I've already made a lot of edits related to the What's New, Scooby-Doo episode 'There's No Creature Like Snow Creature '.
