Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers[]

When Shaggy Rogers inherited a mansion and treasure from his uncle, he eventually realized that the premise was haunted. He then had Scrappy-Doo call a team of ghost exterminators. The first in the phone book was the Boo Brothers, who promptly arrived through the telephone.

Though it soon became evident they were no good at catching ghosts, they did save Shaggy from falling off the roof when he was pushed by the Skull Ghost. They proceeded to both aid and hinder Shaggy's quest for the treasure, still not managing to catch the ape, Skull Ghost, or Farquard. Eventually though, Shaggy becomes fed up as the Boo Brothers just get in the way more than helping, and thus decides to fire them. After learning that the Boo Brothers were orphaned and had no place to stay, Shaggy decided to give them one last chance. Later, they rescued Shaggy, Scrappy, and Scooby-Doo from a sinking boat and assisted in capturing the Skull Ghost, revealed to be T.J. Buzby. Previously sympathetic about their past, Shaggy then gave the Boo Brothers the mansion while he, Scooby, and Scrappy donate the jewelry to an Beaureguard Trust Fund For Orphans. Feeling grateful, the Boo Brothers thanked Shaggy and the others and bid them a warm farewell as they saw them leaving for home.

Notes/trivia[]

  • The Boo Brothers are modeled after the Three Stooges (who also had been in animated form for The New Scooby-Doo Movies TV series, and were the basis for the Brewski Sisters in The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo: When You Witch Upon a Star).
  • An additional inspiration may have been Harvey Comics' Ghostly Trio, roommates of Casper the Friendly Ghost, who were themselves probably also based on the Three Stooges. The names Freako, Meako, and Shreako are suggestive of Fatso, Lazo, and Fusso, the then-official names of the Trio (before being retconned), which are in turn suggestive of the Marx Brothers.
  • The Boo Brothers' profession of ghost hunting suggests a combination of the early-80s adventure comedy movies The Blues Brothers (1980) and Ghostbusters (1984), both of which starred Dan Aykroyd as members of their titular teams.
