Crothers is the captain of the Poseidon mystery cruise ship.

Physical appearance

Crothers is a hearty and hale African American, dressed in a Cruise Ship Captain's attire (white tunic, combination cap, and shorts befitting a relaxed, Cruise Captain's image). While probably somewhere in his 30s, he still appears a bit young to be a full fledged ship captain.

Personality

Captain Crothers is patient, kind and gracious, as befitting a ship captain in the hospitality business.

The captain's name may be a reference to Scatman Crothers, a late actor who had voiced many cartoon roles including Hong Kong Phooey and Jazz from The Transformers.
The Captain is attending the banquet and mystery show when the ghost pirates attack. While this would not be out of the ordinary (a major social event often requires the Captain to put in an appearance), it is odd that the relief bridge crew did not page him when they saw the fog.
