She was supposedly away visiting her sister in Vermont when her town was troubled by the appearance of the ghost of Marie Laplaque, a famous pirate in the town's history whose name had been forbidden to be spoken. She dressed up as the ghost to shock the town into looking for Marie's old diary that William had placed in the library, which revealed that many people in the town, including William himself, were Marie's descendants.
