Bill McLemore was Eric Staufer's college partner and wanted to sabotage his chances of winning the big cash prize at the science fair. He was jealous, because Eric's project was chosen over his own, despite being a student at their college for two years longer than Eric.

Physical appearance[]

Bill is a young man in his late teens, with orange hair and green eyes. He wears a gray-brown T-shirt under a lab coat, as well as blue jeans and a red baseball cap.

Personality[]

He's an avid baseball fanatic, as he uses baseball terms whenever he can. Though this interest led him getting outed out as the creator of the Phantom Virus, as he made the mistake of having the latter too much like him. The gang also discovered that deep down, he's very jealous and malicious, too.

History[]

Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase[]

Bill and Eric were both majoring in video game designing at the university they were attending. One night, while Eric and Bill were working at the college with their teacher, Professor Kaufman, a virus came out of nowhere and started scaring them, using the technology to injure Eric. Professor Kaufman managed to drive it away with a very strong super-magnet.

The next day the Mystery Gang arrived because Eric, who's an old high school friend of theirs, based his game on them and the mysteries they've solved. While there, they were informed about the Phantom Virus. Bill also showed Fred Jones his video game about baseball because he's an avid baseball fan. During the search, however, someone beamed the gang into the game, where they had to play through all the levels and finally defeated the monsters and the Phantom Virus. They then returned to the college to reveal the culprit who created the virus, and the clues he left behind, such as the baseball segments. This made Eric realize that the culprit, who had a liking for baseball, was none other than his best friend, Bill. When revealed as the culprit, he tried to escape Wembley and the Mystery Gang, but Scooby deliberately tripped him with his tail. This caused him to fall backwards, and his baseball game gave him a "game over".

Bill revealed to be the Phantom Virus' creator

Bill confessed to doing it out of jealousy, because Professor Kaufman had chosen Eric's project over his own to compete in the upcoming science fair. Bill felt that this was unfair, especially because he had been a student at the college two years longer than Eric had, and felt that this made him more deserving to compete in the science fair than Eric. Bill created the virus, hoping to scare Eric away and take the prize for himself. Because he was afraid that the gang would find out who created the virus, he beamed them into cyberspace and hoped they either wouldn't live or stay in the game forever. In the end, Bill was arrested by Officer Wembley for his crimes.

Notes/Trivia[]

  • It is shown early on that between himself, Eric and Professor Kaufman, Bill is the least intelligent of the trio. While still a genius, his intelligence appears to be more around an "average" level when compared to them. This is demonstrated when the Professor is describing their encounter with the Phantom Virus. The Professor states the magnet he used "had an adverse effect on the virus", Bill piped up and said "Yeah, and it seemed like the magnet weakened him, like Kryptonite with Superman.", essentially repeating what Prof. Kaufman just said. This may have contributed to his jealousy and resentment towards Eric.
  • Despite being jealous, Bill shows concern when Eric gets attacked by the phone lines, and tries to help him. This implies that Bill isn't completely evil and still cares about Eric. However, this could have been part of his act to hide his true nature, or it's possible that he just didn't intend for Eric to get attacked.
