Scarecrow is the alter ego and disguise of Doctor Jonathan Crane, a scientist and former Gotham University professor turned super villain. He fights his opponents with a fear gas.

Physical appearance[]

Scarecrow is a thin male who wears a crudely-assembled scarecrow mask, made out of burlap; the stitching on the mask forms its mouth. He also wears burlap gloves that match his mask and a floppy, tattered brown scarecrow hat. He also wears a red sweater and old brown pants.

Although as an inmate at Arkham Asylum, he wears a black and white-striped prison uniform.

Personality[]

Scarecrow's devious mind seeks to exploit his victims' fears as a key feature of his criminal schemes. Scarecrow is also revealed to be a huge fan of Elvira possibly to the point of infatuation.

Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold[]

When Crimson Cloak instigated a jailbreak at Arkham Asylum, Scarecrow was among the villains who threatened Batman and Mystery Inc. in the prison. When the jailbreak started, he was briefly knocked down by Batman while Fred JonesDaphne Blake, and Velma Dinkley ran away. He chased Batman and Mystery Inc. towards the main entrance but was trapped in the asylum when they sealed the doors.[1]

Happy Halloween Scooby-Doo![]

Jonathan Crane was also an agent of Toe Omnitech set up by Cutler Toe to keep Mystery Inc. away from his mining plot until he surrenders by siding with the heroes. For example, when Toe tried to make a run for it with his full allowance to buy a getaway in Guam, Scarecrow stops him in his tracks, allowing the feds to find his car. Neither he nor the Sheriff are seen again afterwards.

  • The incarnation in his first Scooby-Doo film had originally appeared in the Batman: The Brave and the Bold TV series on Cartoon Network. He was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
