Stubble Trouble is the second and final story in Scooby-Doo #2, by DC Comics. It was preceded by The Roswell Riddle.

Premise[]

Fred's grandmother is giving a fancy party, and Fred wants Shaggy to shave, but every shaving attempt is interrupted by another monster plot.

Synopsis[]

The gang are on a trip down a street during a rainy night in the Mystery Machine. Fred is reading a telegram, which caught Shaggy's attention and made him ask on what it says. Fred replies saying that his grandmother is hosting a fancy party for them when they get to her house tomorrow. Shaggy asks what's wrong with that, and Fred tells him that he must shave his beard stubble.

Fred loans Shaggy his Norelcorp 9000 Shaver for him to get rid of his faithful whiskers. As he is about to shave his beard, he's interrupted by the sound of the van coming to a stop. Revealing that they had hit something, Fred and the girls went to look. Shaggy and Scooby are confronted by a ghost, who opens the back doors of the van and immediately tells them they are intruders and must leave. Shaggy nervously tells the ghost that he and Scooby need to pass by, but is interrupted when the ghost snatches the razor out of Shaggy's hand and bites down on it.

Shaggy and Scooby ran like crazy to get away from the ghost as he continued to bite Fred's razor. The ghost flipped the on switch, and while confused by the buzzing noise is electrocuted and collapses on the floor. Fred's razor is destroyed.

Later, the culprit responsible for the ghost they encountered is arrested for trying to obtain property under false pretenses. Velma lends her Lady Schtick in hopes it could handle Shaggy's beard stubble, but they are interrupted by a tentacled creature who smacks the Schtick out of his hand. The creature is caught revealing it to be a businessman trying to buy land around a new airfield.

The rest of the gang try to get Shaggy to shave. He tries to use a knife, but gets interrupted by a smuggler dressed as a chicken monster. He then uses scissors, only to lose them in the tall grass after dealing with an elderly gang member dressed as a hedgehog monster. Fred gives him some advice on shaving regularly so no interruptions happen, but he tosses away some garden shears after stopping a thief dressed as a tall robot. They are lost when the authorities think it is stolen property. The Gang end up catching fourteen more crooks over the course of the night.

Shaggy sadly realizes that he the reason he never shaves was due to having no time. Hearing the van screech to a stop yet again, Shaggy thinks there were going to be more monsters, only for Fred to tell him that they have finally arrived at his grandmother's house. Shaggy freaks out and tells Fred that he tried his best, but he couldn't shave because of some "Crazed Creature Conspiracy".

As Fred's grandmother approaches the Mystery Machine to greet her nephew and the rest of the gang, Shaggy tries to get Scooby to hide him. When she sees Shaggy's beard she compliments him on having a manly beard. She then pokes fun at Fred for never growing more than a peach's fuzz, causing him to sheepishly smile as everyone laughs.
