Scooby-Doo! and the Spooky Scarecrow is the third in a series of direct-to-video short films based upon Hanna-Barbera's Scooby-Doo Saturday morning cartoons. It was released on DVD on September 10, 2013.

Premise[]

Mystery Inc. come to celebrate Halloween in Cobb Corners, just as a scarecrow comes to life and haunts the corn maze.

Synopsis[]

The entrance to a corn maze is lit with pumpkin jack o'lanterns. Suddenly we see a fearsome werewolf - but it is just a dummy and Levi is explaining one of the scares in the maze to Maizy. They kiss as two ghosts lumber towards them - but it's just Jake and his friend. Levi wonders about another scarecrow further into the maze. All four look at it as it growls, turns to look at them and brandishes its scythe. Maizy takes some video of it when they realize it is Cornfield Clem, and run for their lives as it orders them to get out of his cornfield.

The Gang drive into Cobb Corners the day before Halloween to enjoy the Harvest Festival. Shaggy is enthusiastic about all the corn-based food available. They notice some concerned townsfolk, and Mayor Husk is trying to allay their worries about Cornfield Clem. The townsfolk, however, still want to cancel the festival. The gang walk up to Abner and ask him a number of questions, including whether they're going to cancel the festival over a scarecrow. Abner's answer to all the questions is "Yep". Meanwhile, the mayor continues to assure the crowd that everything will be alright, and that Sheriff Kern will keep them all safe.

After noticing them in the street, the Gang talk to Maizy and Levi, the Corncob Queen and King respectively, at the Pizza Barn. Maizy tells them that Clem has been around for 200 years, when the townsfolk ran a witch out of town. She cursed them by bringing a scarecrow to life, and tasked it with making the townsfolk miserable. Daphne assures them Clem isn't real, but Maizy shows her the video she took.

Walking downtown, discussing how real the legend is, the Gang run into Clem on the street. Shaggy and Scooby hide, but it turns out to be two kids in a costume. Daphne notices the nearby Novelty Store sells the realistic costumes and other Cornfield Clem memorabilia. They talk to the owner, Mr. Bumpy who says Clem's his best seller and by Halloween at least 100 people will be wearing Clem masks. Velma notes how much harder that will make it to solve the mystery.

The Festival gets underway that night, and as Shaggy and Scooby buy corn on the cob, Fred, Velma and Daphne head to the corn maze. The maze, however, is roped off and Abner is stopping people from entering. He is doing so on the Sheriff's orders, as she believes it's "growing a crop of evil".

Shaggy hits the corn dog stand as Fred, Velma and Daphne work out a new plan to get into the maze. He sits down at an empty table with Scooby and they dig in to their food. Scooby sees Clem looming over them, but Shaggy reassures him it's just a prop. Clem then grabs a piece of paper that is blowing away and hands it to Scooby. They run and are chased onto the Ferris Wheel, as the townsfolk watch on.

Scooby and Shaggy hide in a hay cart as the rest of the Gang come to the rescue. Clem climbs onto the cart and starts searching it. Fred fires a net gun at Clem, bumping him onto the horse attached to the cart. Clem throws off the net and rides away - cutting the giant Corncob balloon free as he goes. The balloon floats towards the corn maze as Clem heads out of town, taking Shaggy and Scooby with him, followed by the rest of the Gang.

On a steep, winding road Clem cuts the horse loose from the cart and gallops away. However, the cart with Shaggy and Scooby continues to roll down a hill and smashes into the cemetery gates, throwing them into a freshly dug, but empty, grave. As they climb out, they are confronted by a cemetery worker who accuses them of stealing his tools. This is quickly sorted out after the rest of the Gang arrive in the Mystery Machine. They assure the worker that once they solve the mystery of Cornfield Clem it will also solve the thefts as well - and Velma notes that the cemetery adjoins the cornfield.

The next morning the mayor addresses the townsfolk, cancelling the Festival. Ironically, the same people who wanted it cancelled the previous day are against cancelling it now. The mayor orders all children to stay indoors, and says that Clem should disappear after Halloween when the corn is harvested and the field mowed flat. Maizy cries that if the festival is cancelled she won't be Corncob Queen. The mayor finishes by ordering Sheriff Kern to keep everyone out of the cornfield on Halloween night and that since this is the second calamity in the town this year if she fails again he will fire her.

The Gang ask her about the other calamity. It was a bank robbery, and despite roadblocks neither the culprit or the money was ever found. The getaway car, however, was located near the cornfield. The Sheriff orders Abner to barricade and guard the cornfield, but that is the only place the Gang want to go tonight.

On Halloween night, no one is out, except Abner guarding the cornfield and the Sheriff patrolling in her police car. Just after she drives past, the Gang emerge from the bushes, cross the road and enter the cornfield.

They search the corn maze by torchlight, as Velma checks a map of the maze given to her by Maizy. Daphne trips, but it's not her fault. Someone has dug a hole in the path. The Gang quickly spot a lot more, into one of which Shaggy falls. Velma thinks Clem has found what he was looking for, and they use Scooby to track him down. Scooby does - but Cornfield Clem is driving towards them in a combine harvester.

The Gang split up and Clem follows Scooby and Shaggy - who manage to trigger a few of the dummy werewolves as well as a mummy. The rest of the Gang find the balloon from the Festival, giving Fred an idea. Clem has almost caught up with Scooby and Shaggy, but they escape by diving into one of the holes Clem dug. Clem drives harmlessly over them, but spots Fred who sticks his head above the corn. Clem drives at him, but at Daphne's urging he shoots the balloon out of his net gun, jamming the harvester and throwing Cornfield Clem through the windscreen and onto the ground, in a shower of money.

Sheriff Kern arrives, having spotted the combine, and Velma unmasks Clem, revealing the culprit was Abner. He had the smooth hands of a safe cracker and had buried his money in a field when he couldn't get out of town. But when Abner returned for it the recently planted corn had grown, masking his dig site. He stuck around and used the Festival and the legend of Cornfield Clem to keep people out of the maze while he searched for the money.

Kern arrests Abner and the next day the Festival is back in full swing - the balloon back in place. Maizy and Levi are crowned Corncob Queen and King and the Gang dress up in costumes while enjoying the day. All except Scooby. Suddenly Clem appears next to Shaggy who recoils in terror. Scooby then takes off the mask and eats Shaggy's corn dog saying "Trick or treat!"
