This article is about the monster from The New Scooby-Doo Movies episode, The Haunted Carnival. For the similar character in Scooby-Doo! Unmasked, see Circus Strongman.

The Ghostly Strongman was the disguise of the Carnival Strongman. He wanted to scare Dick Van Dyke out of business so he could buy the carnival cheap.

Physical appearance[]

The ghost had a near-identical appearance to the man portraying him: a muscular, bald man wearing a sleeveless shirt. He was entirely pale white.

Personality[]

Insert details here.

Powers and abilities[]

He was extremely strong; he easily lifted a dumbbell that Shaggy and Scooby-Doo couldn't move with their combined strength, and even lifted Shaggy along with it.

History[]

The New Scooby-Doo Movies[]

Season two[]

While enjoying the fun house mirrors, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy are startled by the ghostly strongman when he appears inside one of them. They immediately decide to barricade themselves in another room, with the intention to bolt the back door shut, only for the ghost to rip the bolt off when they aren't looking. Changing plans, the pair decide to instead use a nearby dumbbell to block the back entrance but, while struggling to lift it themselves, are assisted by the ghost, scaring them out of the building entirely.

Thinking they've escaped, Scooby and Shaggy hide in the Caterpillar Ride, though when Shaggy offers to hold Scooby's hand when he gets scared, they discover they're sitting on either side of the ghost. When Dick Van Dyke and the rest of the gang arrive, Dick tries to get the ghost off the ride after learning he hasn't paid for a ticket, leading him to pull an emergency break which abruptly stops the ride, launching Scooby and Shaggy into a Balloon Stand. Since everybody is distracted by this, the ghost uses the opportunity to fill a large balloon with helium which helps lift the bin into the air, before proceeding to use a Mirror to pop the balloons, sending Scooby and Shaggy plummeting towards the ground.

Later, when the gang has split up, Dick, Scooby and Shaggy encounter the ghost at a High Striker, where he uses the hammer to launch Dick up against the game's bell, ricocheting him onto the top of his golf cart. He follows this up by hammering the tester so hard that it breaks the bell completely off. Scooby and Shaggy hightail it out of there, but the ghost is able to grab Dick by the collar, only for him to kick up a bunch of dust and escape anyway.

Upon the discovery of the Motor Room later on, Dick and the gang discover the Carnival Strongman to be the ghostly strongman's true identity.

Notes/Trivia[]

Caterpillar Ride Ghost

The ghostly strongman aboard the caterpillar ride.

  • When Scooby and Shaggy encounter the ghost on the caterpillar ride, he appears to be drawn either without a face or wearing a mask (which can later be spotted amongst the strongman's costumes), which doesn't match any of his other appearances. While it may at first seem like this must be a different ghost, when pulling the ride's emergency brake, his arm is revealed to be identical to the ghostly strongman's.
  • During their exchange regarding the ghost having a ticket to ride the caterpillar ride, Shaggy relays to Mr. Van Dyke that this ghost claims to be over 600 years old.
  • Upon the discovery of the carnival strongman's costumes, none appear to be the outfit worn by the ghostly strongman. Instead, it appears the carnival strongman's normal clothes are colored versions of what the ghostly strongman is seen wearing.
