The Ghosts of the Hatfields were the disguises of Mystery Inc., based on the deceased ancestors of the Hatfield family. They were used as part of a trap for capturing the Ghost of Witch McCoy and the zombie.
As the ghosts, the gang wore old-fashioned clothing and made themselves entirely pale white. Scooby-Doo wore overalls with a patch on the right leg and a tattered, pointy hat. Shaggy Rogers wore a buttoned shirt, pants with a patch on the right leg, a rope tied around his waist, and a cowboy hat. Velma Dinkley wore a dress with an apron as well as a bonnet. Daphne Blake wore a short-sleeved dress with a ribbon tied around her waist and a headscarf tied below her chin. Fred Jones wore a buttoned shirt, pants with suspenders and a patch on the right leg, and a hat with a round top.
They menaced Witch McCoy, claiming that they had come back from the dead to change her into a frog. The ghost portrayed by Shaggy spoke in rhyme.
Powers and abilities
- Teleportation: In some unexplained way, they appeared in a puff of smoke.
- Frog transformation spell: They tricked Witch McCoy into thinking they had turned her into a frog by dropping a frog costume on her.
The Scooby-Doo Show
The Ghost of Witch McCoy was digging for loot stolen by a bank robber, which had been buried somewhere in the woods. However, the zombie confronted her, claiming the loot was his. Just then, three ghosts (Scooby, Velma, and Shaggy) appeared. They introduced themselves as the ghosts of the Hatfields and declared that they had come to turn Witch McCoy into a frog. The witch tried to run, only for two more ghosts (Daphne and Fred) to appear and block her escape. One of the ghosts recited a spell, and the witch backed into a rope, causing a frog costume to drop on her. The ghosts held up a mirror to show the witch that she had become a frog. The zombie tried to escape, but failed.
The zombie was really Zeke Harkins, the bank robber who had stolen the loot and had escaped from prison to retrieve it, while Witch McCoy turned out to be Aggie Wilkins, Zeke's ex-girlfriend who tried to make off with the money before he could. The gang had altered the directions to the loot hidden under a board in the Hatfield home in order to mislead the two crooks and disguised themselves as the ghosts to scare them and capture them.
