Hanna-Barbera Enterprises, Inc., was an animation studio that impacted and dominated television from its founding in 1957 until its absorption into Warner Bros. Animation in 2001. William Hanna and Joseph Barbera began working together at MGM when they created the legendary "Tom & Jerry" short film series, ultimately taking charge of MGM animation upon Fred Quimby's retirement. When MGM choose to shutter its animation department in 1957, mimicking other studios that were shifting away from animated shorts, director George Sidney partnered with Hanna and Barbera in the formation of their own studio, Hanna-Barbera Enterprises, Inc., which also operated under the names Hanna-Barbera Productions Inc., and Hanna-Barbera Cartoons, Inc. H-B went on to provide a powerful and lasting impact on television animation, including the first animated sitcoms and a slate of legendary characters. Furthermore, a great many of the characters originally created by Hanna and Barbera for the small screen (including Fred Flintstone, Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo, Huckleberry Hound, and Jonny Quest) have crossed the boundaries into film, books, toys, and all manner of other media, becoming virtually ubiquitous as cultural icons.

Hanna-Barbera Enterprises was sold to Taft Broadcasting in 1966, though Hanna and Barbara remained in charge of the studio. Ownership changed hands again in the 1980's, when Taft was acquired by Great American Broadcasting, which in turn sold Hanna-Barbera to Turner Broadcasting System in 1991. The merger of Turner and Warner Bros. in 1996 brought about a handful of projects that were co-produced by Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros., but the legendary studio was eventually folded into Warner Bros. Animation after the death of William Hanna in 2001. The Hanna-Barbera name is still used by Warner Bros. Animation to credit any H-B related intellectual property and to market classic material produced by Hanna-Barbera.
