The cave is the home to the Hermit of the Hills. The cave is actually in a cliffside with a guage seperating it from the outskirts of a countryside.

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!
After following footprints that the gang believed to belong to the Creeper, it lead them to a gauge with a pair of ropes connecting to a rolled up plank bridge in an opening of a cliff. Scooby-Doo walked across the ropes (after some bribing) and unrolled the bridge for the others. At first they thought it was empty, until they met the eccentric old hermit inside. As he welcomed them in, Velma Dinkley was positive he was the Creeper in disguise. The hermit gave Shaggy Rogers some of his special stew, to which the latter found out was made from squirrels, pickled bat wings and crab grass roots. This brought an end to their stay and the gang ran out, inspite of the desperate protests of the hermit.
- While it's not explicitly confirmed, the cave could be retconned into being situated in Coolsville, the home town of the gang, as established in A Pup Named Scooby-Doo.
