Melanie Staples is the daughter of Dr. Ned Staples.
Physical appearance[]
She is a young woman with blonde hair, which she wears in a ponytail. She wears a pink t-shirt and blue jean shorts. She also wore a red headband that appears to be plastic but which is actually a cybernetic control for the Mecha Mutt.
Personality[]
She seemed very friendly. She appeared to have an interest in Fred Jones, but this was probably an act to gain his trust.
Inwardly, she was self-absorbed, unstable, and bent on revenge. She did not seem to care about hurting innocent bystanders. She was resentful of her father for putting his research first, that led to him ignoring and neglecting her.
History[]
Scooby-Doo! Mecha Mutt Menace[]
She first met the gang when Scooby bumped into her, causing her to be caught in Fred's trap. After getting her out, she introduces herself as Dr. Ned Staples daughter, who she invites the gang to see his invention, Mecha Mutt.
However, Mecha Mutt goes haywire, and if it isn't stopped, her dad's career, and the space program would be ruined.
She helped out the gang by taking them to meet Ned's lab assistant Irv (who has a crush on her).
Melanie is revealed to be the saboteur.
She was with the gang when Mecha Mutt was stopped, and Velma exposes her as the culprit. Her headband was really a remote-control she used to control Mecha Mutt, and she had gum resin from Fred's net on the controls for the wind tunnel Shaggy and Scooby were trapped in with Mecha Mutt. Melanie confesses that she controlled Mecha Mutt for revenge on her father, who has always ignored and neglected her, never seeing how brilliant she was. She was taken away by the authorities. After that Daphne Blake, who was hostile to her throughout, patted herself on the back by saying she always was suspicious of her.
