Ricky Owens was one of the missing original Mystery Incorporated members who supposedly disappeared in the Crystal Cove Caves. He returned under the alias of Mr. E having built a seedy corporation called Destroido Corp.

The original Mystery Inc.'s Ricky is the older counterpart of the younger Mystery Inc.'s Shaggy Rogers due to their respective appearance and personality, as well as their friendships with their team's mascots, Professor Pericles and Scooby-Doo.

He also shared a (somewhat) similar relationship with Cassidy Williams to the one shared between Shaggy and Velma Dinkley. Cassidy was attracted to Ricky, and the latter couple were briefly in a romantic relationship. Ricky, Cassidy, and Pericles also paired off like Shaggy, Velma, and Scooby, respectively, when looking for clues.

Physical appearance[]

Ricky is a man. As a teenager, he was skinny and had slightly messy, dark brown hair. He wore a white and yellow-green striped T-shirt. Like everyone else in the original Mystery Incorporated, his shirt had a golden magnifying glass in the corner with a question mark. As Ricky grew older, he became fatter, developed permanent eyebags, grew a beard, and grew out his hair.

In the new timeline, he wears glasses and a black turtleneck and remains slim.

Personality[]

Teen Ricky seemed accident prone and clumsy. He often appeared nervous. He had a habit of adding "Daddy-O" to his sentences.

As an adult, Ricky was extremely bitter and pessimistic.

History[]

Early life[]

As a child, Ricky rescued Professor Pericles from a tree in his yard, which Pericles had crashed into, injuring himself so that he was unable to fly. After gaining Pericles' trust and nursing him back to health, Ricky released Professor Pericles back into the wild. However, Pericles quickly returned, marking the beginning of their friendship.[1]

The search for an explanation behind the weird goings-on in Crystal Cove brought the original Mystery Incorporated to the Darrow Mansion, which had been pulled underground. There, they encountered Dean Daniel "Danny" Darrow, who had already been driven mad by loneliness. According to Darrow's account, they left shortly after their arrival.[2]

Ricky tried to help Professor Pericles by standing on an organ in the old condemned church, then tried to climb the organ pipes, which came crashing down. This led to the accidental discovery of the picture of the Planispheric Disk.[3]

In All Fear the Freak, it is revealed that the parents of the original Mystery Inc. were all framed for various crimes[4] by Professor Pericles and Fred Jones Sr. Thus, rather than going missing, they were all forced to leave Crystal Cove.
