This article is about the second series. For other uses, see Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo (disambiguation).

Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo refers to a package show of animated segments that comprise the fifth incarnation of the Scooby-Doo franchise produced by Hanna Barbera Productions. The series originally ran from 1980–1982 on ABC, initially as a standalone show in October, 1980, but several weeks later as a part of The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show and Scrappy Too!. This package show continued for two seasons, and was followed by The Scooby & Scrappy Doo Puppy Hour for its third, which is also known as Scooby and Scrappy and Yabba-Doo[1]. Unlike previous incarnations, which were mainly half an hour in length, each adventure was only around seven minutes long.

After airing in the package shows, the Scooby-Doo segments entered syndication as episodes in a standard half-hour three shorts format, under the blanket title of Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo, utilizing a modified version of the intro from the first series. This intro was modified to account for the exclusion of the rest of the gang, though they still appear in silhouette on the title cards of the first and second seasons. It replaced the shot of Scrappy carrying a recovering Scooby into the waiting room of a hospital, where Mystery Inc. is sitting, with footage of Scooby and Shaggy running, panicked, from The Ghoul, the Bat and the Ugly.

The segments from the first and second seasons were also rebroadcast on ABC during the 1984–1985 season under the title Scary Scooby Funnies, for twenty half-hour episodes.

Overview[]

Unlike the previous incarnation with the same name, this series focuses only on the adventures of Scooby-Doo, Scrappy and Shaggy, often dealing with real monsters and other supernatural threats, instead of ordinary villains wearing a mask.

The first two seasons offer no discernible continuity or recurring settings between episodes, but the third season places the trio in an unidentified metropolitan area, working as temporary stand-ins at the Fearless Detective Agency for Shaggy's Uncle Fearless, helping to solve local crimes. The Scrappy-Doo and Yabba-Doo segments place Scrappy-Doo living with his Uncle, Yabba-Doo, the sheriff of Tumbleweed County, in an undisclosed time frame unconnected with the Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo shorts.
