I actually found this interesting article on Jerry Beck's website that claims Kasem had already successfully made Shaggy a vegetarian by the 1980s with persmission from Gordon Hunt. It quotes Kasem but I'm not sure if this was from a pre-existing interview or they managed to talk to him shortly before his death.
