The Best Laid Plans... is the second of two stories in Scooby-Doo #5, by DC Comics. It was preceded by Legend of the Silver Scream.
Premise
Fred has a perfect, blueprinted plan to catch the Shoe Ghost. Of course, if anything were to go wrong...
Synopsis
Mystery Inc. are on their way to a spooky hotel, which a sheriff is quick to warn them away from with claims of it being haunted by the Shoe Ghost. They go anyway and Fred makes up a blueprint of foolproof trap, which relies heavily on Scooby and Shaggy activating it.
The Shoe Ghost is caught off guard by the trap at first, but unfortunately, the trap is set next to the kitchen, which Scooby and Shaggy rummage for food. The Shoe Ghost goes to follow Scooby and Shaggy, who are making their way out of the kitchen, only to accidentally set the trap off, getting themselves caught in the cage. It looks like they're done for, but the Shoe Ghost slips on all the mess they made and is revealed to be the sheriff in disguise.

Reception
In the second story, Chris Duffy with the Rube Goldberg genius of Tim Harkins remind readers of all those brilliantly laid traps that Scoob and Shaggy botched. Their choice for ghosts inspires chuckles, and of course, we relish those immortal lines "I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those__________ kids." Patricia Mulvihill once more treats the eye with a pastel background giving the gang a Hanna-Barbera cel look, and editor Bronwyn Taggart ends the issue with another informative essay. For kids of all ages.[1]
