Josie & the Pussycats creator Dan DeCarlo stops over to refuel the Mystery Machine. His version of the gang barely resembles the television source, but they're all enjoyable to watch. There's a tendency to belittle cartoonists, to separate them from other artists: as if what they do is easier than say a painting, but the work Mr. DeCarlo displays in Scooby-Doo shows just how accomplished a cartoonist can be. The gang may not look quite like their cartoon incarnations, but they also do not look like the Josie gang--although both harbor the dangerous weaponry of fetching red-heads.

Bob Fingerman's plot is a complex, multileveled scheme that still works within the rational formula of Scooby-Doo. Remember, there are no ghosts. There are no monsters. Every plot foiled by the gang usually had the plausible motive of money. Mr. Fingerman's tale falls in that category, but even the theft has an ulterior motive. [1]
