The Richie Rich Scooby-Doo Show

The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show is a package show produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions in 1980 for ABC Saturday mornings. The program contained segments from Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo and Richie Rich. The Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo shorts represents the sixth show in which Scooby-Doo appears. This was the only Hanna-Barbera package series for which Scooby-Doo was given second billing and also notable for Richie Rich's debut in animation.

This series was the first in which Daphne, Velma and Fred were discarded. Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy were the featured characters in this program. In this program, the trio headed the Fearless Detective Agency which traveled throughout the world solving 7-minute mysteries. However, this was not the case in every episode. These segments were the first to experiment with the comedy format that would become dominant over the next five years. Getting rid of Daphne, Velma and Fred as well as introducing more comedy did not hurt Scooby ratings in the least bit. In fact, the series was renewed for a second season. Overall, twenty episodes were produced with three Scooby adventures per episode. Another interesting note is that this double-star vehicle was one of the few that featured Scooby as a back-up series. Richie Rich was meant to be the headlining character on this hour of cartoons. (credit: The Big Cartoon Database: The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Hour. One more interesting note about the series is that, unlike the other Scooby-Doo shows, this one involves real supernatural monsters such as vampires, werewolves, ghosts and even genies.
