Zalia Z. Fairchild is an actor who starred in a previous movie at the studio Sandy Duncan was filming at and had secretly been living there for several years. He dressed up as several monsters to scare people away and delay the finishing of the movie because he didn't want the studio to be torn down. He captured Daphne Blake by mistake, thinking she was Sandy. However, after he was caught, despite everything he had done, Sandy was very forgiving towards him and asked if they could help him. Mr. Thayer, the manager of the studio agreed since he showed great talent and the publicity was good.
